We are delighted to hear from General and Gatiada's new family and this is what they have to say:
"General and Gatiada have been with us for nearly 2 years now and are enjoying a quiet life. They both have wonderful temperaments and are quite happy if the grandchildren are wandering around them.
Although Gatiada is unable to be ridden because of leg problems, that we think go back to her days on the polo field, she has a wonderful nature and 'potters' around quite happily.
We had a major scare with General last summer and at one stage thought we might lose him. He had severe colic symptoms and had to be rushed to Dr Ghyros at Villefrance. He was hospitalised for several days and after tests, it was discovered he had large lesions in his gut. Fortunately, with the help of Dr Ghyros, he made a full recovery and was finally sent home with enough medication to start
a pharmacy! As I was the one having to give him his medication, for a long time I was his least favourite person. However,I think he has now forgiven me! He has had another dose of colic this year but luckily our local vet was able to deal with it.
He is ridden occasionally and even if he hasn't been out for weeks, he is always the perfect gentleman.
We now have a Fjord pony as well and General is definitely the boss!
General and Gatiada have definitely enhanced our lives here in France."
Constant companions General & Gatiada are retired polo ponies who having reached the end of their careers, had not been ridden since 2004.
17 year old General is a stunning Appaloosa gelding and Gatiada a very pretty 21 year old dun mare. They were also given to ASHA rather than take the route of “no return”.
They stayed initially at the ASHA Rescue Centre where Helen brought General back into work whilst Gatiada recovered from problems with her feet. They proved to be delightful and were quickly adopted.
General & Gatiada are now happily with their new adoptive family. This is their story:
“We’ve been privileged to have General and Gatiada living with us for the last couple of months.
They are fantastic characters and absolutely devoted to each other. Having said that, Gatiada does not worry when General goes out for a ride. Due to the weather conditions, riding has been somewhat limited so we are looking forward to the better weather and exploring the beautiful countryside around us.
They are incredibly laid back and even when 2 wild boar and their 8 babies crossed the field next to theirs, they were not fazed.
They are a perfect couple and we are very happy that they have become part of our lives.”
